SUMMER READING INFORMATION
Summer is a time for relaxation and enjoyment, but it is also the perfect time for students to reap the many rewards of independent reading. As educators, we realize the importance of reading throughout the school year, and we would like to encourage reading during the summer as a way for students to maintain reading levels and skills they have acquired within the school year. More importantly, we hope that by encouraging independent reading, students will experience the many joys of reading and will become lifelong readers and learners.
As such, we have provided reading titles for the 2016-2017 school year. For students entering Sr. Kindergarten through Grade Eight, these books are required reading for the summer. Each student should choose two books to read and complete the assignment for each book chosen. Assignments are due the first day of school, August 3, 2016. These assignments will count towards your child’s Reading Grade and will impact your child’s overall scores.

Books may be purchased online, new or used, through Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. If you choose to purchase through a bookstore, I recommend calling ahead. If it is not in stock, they can usually order a copy for you.
We strongly encourage students to read books to foster a life-long love of reading and invite them to wonder, imagine, and explore life’s endless possibilities. If you have any questions about our summer reading program, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
