SUMMER READING INFORMATION

Dear BHPS Families,

Summer is a time for relaxation and enjoyment, and it is also the perfect time for students to reap the many rewards of being read to and reading independently. As educators, we realize the importance of reading throughout the school year, and we would like to encourage reading during the summer as a way for students to maintain reading levels and skills they have acquired within the school year. More importantly, we hope that by encouraging independent reading, students will experience the many joys of reading and will become lifelong readers and learners.

As such, we have provided many reading titles for the 2022-2023 school year, so that every student can find books they enjoy. For students entering Sr. Kindergarten through Grade Eight, two of the books are required reading for the summer. Each student should choose at least two books to read and complete the assignment for one book chosen. Assignments are due the first day of school, August 3, 2022. These assignments will count towards your child’s reading grade and will impact your child’s overall scores.

Books may be purchased online, new or used, through Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com, or checked out of your local public library. If you have a library card, you can access all books, videos, audio books, music, etc. from the Libby app.

Additionally, many online sources, such as Audible and Kindle, have opened their platforms for free to children to access books.
We strongly encourage students to read books to foster a life-long love of reading and invite them to wonder, imagine, and explore life’s endless possibilities.
